Turkish soldier dies in a roadside explosion in Siirt.

On Tuesday, a roadside explosion in Siirt, southerneastern Turkey killed one soldier and injured another. On state media, Turkey blamed the Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) for the roadside bomb explosion. The PKK is designated as a terrorist organization by Turkey, US and EU. The rebel group carried out several attacks over the past years against Turkish soldiers in southeast Turkey.

The Turkish military regularly carries out military operations against the PKK in southeastern part of the country and in Kurdistan region. PKK has been designated as a terrorist organization by Turkey since 1984, when a full scale insurgency started. PKK are known to have recruited child soldiers and bomb city centres, while the Turkish military reportedly burned down Kurdish villages.
