Ten more residential compounds have been locked down amid a new covid-19 cases connected to the Xinfadi wholesale market in Beijing. After several months of no cases, Beijing had a second day of cases, prompting authorities to lock down the market along with several others in the vicinity. Some officials were also fired.

On Monday, there were 49 new cases, including 36 more in Beijing. There were also 10 imported cases, which have usually accounted for the majority of China’s cases recently.

Authorities started mass screening in the area affected, with more than 41,500 people tested as of Monday morning, which includes traders and workers at the market.  In total there are 177 people positive for Covid-19, with 2 severely ill.
