The number of deaths due to the virus now stands at 20,184. On Tuesday, India reported 467 new deaths, and 22,252 new cases. The total number of cases now stand at 721,351.

The continued surge in cases did not stop the government from easing the lockdown due to its impact on the economy.

Domestic travel has reopened while international flights are so far still suspended.

Rather than a complete lockdown, in response to a surge of cases, localized lockdowns are being implemented, containing zones where there are a concentration of cases.
