A 6.5-magnitude earthquake strikes Western Brazil.

Moments ago the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported that at 4.38am local time a 6.5-magnitude earthquake struck Tarauaca, Acre, Brazil at a depth of 619km.

The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.

Weak shaking was felt in Tarauaca (pop. 16,500) located 68 km from the epicenter, and Feijo (pop. 13,000) 112 km away.
