A 4.9-magnitude earthquake struck 67km southwest of Rhodes Island, Greece at a moderately shallow depth of 51km. The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) claimed that the earthquake struck at 10.19pm local time.

The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.

Based on the preliminary seismic data, the earthquake should not have caused any significant damage, but it was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking most likely felt in Gennadi (pop. 660) located 22 km from the epicenter, Lardos (pop. 1,300) 27 km away, Archangelos (pop. 5,400) 41 km away, Embonas (pop. 1,100) 45 km away, Afantou (pop. 5,600) 50 km away, Faliraki (pop. 6,000) 56 km away, Kremasti (pop. 4,700) 62 km away, Ialysos (pop. 11,300) 63 km away, and Rhodes (pop. 56,100) 67 km away.
