5.9-magnitude earthquake in Peru.

A 5.9-magnitude earthquake just struck 14km West of Huancavelica, Peru at a depth of 97km. The first seismological agency to report this, EMSC, reported that the quake struck at 2.39pm local time.

The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologis1ts review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.

Moderate shaking probably occurred in the city of Huancavelica (pop. 41,600) located 14 km from the epicenter. In Pampas (pop. 5,500) located 54 km from the epicenter, Chilca (pop. 73,400) 83 km away, Huancayo (pop. 376,700) 86 km away, Huanta (pop. 18,600) 93 km away, and Ayacucho (pop. 140,000) 102 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have also been felt in Chincha Alta (pop. 153,100) located 130 km from the epicenter.
