A chemical plant in Shepherd, Texas is in flames after an explosion on Wednesday morning. Authorities have ordered a ‘shelter-in-place’. The massive plume of blsck smoke could be seen from miles away.

The chemical plant, Sound Resource Solutions, employs 40 people and according to its President, Geoff Harfield, all are safe and at home except one employee that was injured and being treated for minor burns.

Highway 59 is closed due to the fire. Locals are urged to use alternate roads. The Polk County Emergency Management Office has advised residents of Livingston area to switch off their HVAC systems in both homes and business immediately, since the plume of smoke is heading to that area.
