Earlier today, a Greek-owned Bulker ship was struck by a surface drone while enroute to India in the Red Sea. The attack was conducted by the rebel group Ansar Allah (Houthi) from Yemen. The Greek ship is located 66 nautical miles southwest of Hudaydah, Yemen and is awaiting assistance.

The rebel group has been targeting Western ships since 19th October 2023 to show their support for Gaza in its war with Israel. As a response to their continuous targeting of Western ships, the US and allied forces frequently conduct sorties to target sites in Yemen from which the Houthis forces are firing their armed drones and missiles. Analysts have noted that Houthi forces potentially attacked successfully for the first time with their surface drones, adding a new capability for the group. After the explosion, there are unconfirmed reports that a fire started in the engine room, and the ship started taking in water.

No injuries were reported. No further details are available.
