6.0-magnitude earthquake strikes Taiwan.

A 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck 21 km northeast of Yujing, Taiwan shortly after midnight, on Tuesday, Jan 21, 2025 at around 12.19 am local time (GMT +8). The quake struck at a shallow depth of 16.70km.
The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologis1ts review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Moderate shaking probably occurred in Yujing (pop. 16,600) which is located 21 km from the epicenter.
In Tainan City (pop. 771,200) located 51 km from the epicenter, Douliu (pop. 104,700) 54 km away, Taitung City (pop. 109,600) 74 km away, Kaohsiung City (pop. 1,519,700) 76 km away, Nantou City (pop. 105,700) 76 km away, Yuanlin (pop. 124,700) 81 km away, Zhongxing New Village (pop. 25,500) 81 km away, and Puli (pop. 86,400) 89 km away, the quake should have been felt only as light shaking.
No injuries or casualties have been reported so far. Authorities are currently assessing the damage and monitoring for aftershocks.
