Iran state media reported that yesterday an explosion occurred 400 metres beneath the surface at the Tazareh mine in Semnan’s Damghan county. The explosion occurred at around 7:30 p.m. local time (1600 GMT) on Sunday. It is believed that gas accumulation resulted in an explosion, collapsing a tunnel at the mine, trapping the workers. As a result, six workers lost their lives. Rescued workers were rushed to the hospital due to gas poisoning.

The operation to save the rest of the workers took 10 hours. An investigation has been launched.
