Former Japanese Prime Minister dies after being shot.

The former Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe, 67, has been rushed to the hospital and showing no vital signs. He was shot in the back twice at close range in Nara during an election campaign at around 11.30am. He was giving a speech ahead of Sunday’s election for the parliament’s upper house. The Former PM was the longest serving PM in Japanese history where he served from 2007-2008 and 2012-2020. He resigned in 2020 due to health reasons.

The killer was caught immediately and the gun recovered as he made no attempt to run away. Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno returned immediately to office and is scheduled to speak later today.

Update: Former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has died at the age of 67.
