Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that an increased Russian activity was observed in the Russian regions bordering Sumy and Chernihiv regions suggesting that an assault by the Russian forces in the near future is possible. On March 27th, the Ukrainian President Zelensky visited Sumy Oblast and inspected the construction of fortifications near the regional center.
This is similiar to what happened last week when Russian forces advanced into Kharkiv months after it was noted that they were striking along key areas of the frontline in an attempt to weaken the Ukrainian forces in preparation for the assault. Ukrainian forces managed to slow the Russian advance in some areas but it is struggling.
In Kharkiv, Russian forces have continued their advance, capturing villages north and northeast of Kharkiv city. More than 6,700 civilians were evacuated from border settlements as Russian relentless attacks using artillery, missiles and drones is doing massive damage to homes and buildings.
