Scotland is currently in lock-down in a attempt to curb the spread of the virus. The authorities have urged all citizens to not travel more than a few miles from their home, due to the coronavirus situation. The trucks that were seen carrying nuclear weapons came as a surprise to most people.

The convoy of trucks were carrying Trident nuclear missile warheads, and were heading to Royal Naval Armaments Depot at Coulport. The trucks traveled from Central to Southern Scotland despite the current restrictions and the overstretched health services, according to the Scottish Greens.

The convoy travelled from Burghfield to Coulport and passed through Stirling, and follows another convoy which travelled to Coulport on November 27 then was sighted returning on December 2.

The Scottish Greens continued by saying that last month a COVID-19 outbreak in a nuclear submarine base contributed to increased case numbers.

In early December, there was a Covid outbreak at the nuclear submarine base at Faslane, which substantially increased case numbers in the area.

Scottish Greens MSP, Mark Ruskell said that carrying nuclear weapons in the middle of a lock-down is not an essential journey. He also said,

There are serious questions about the Ministry of Defence’s risk assessments if these convoys are allowed to pass through Scotland during challenging weather and while we are in the grip of a deadly pandemic.

Mark Ruskell.
