Minutes ago the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that a 7.6-magnitude earthquake struck South Sandwich Islands Region at a depth of 76km.
The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be changed later on as seismologists review their data and calculations, or else as other agencies issue their own reports.
Since the area is very remote, most likely very few people felt the earthquake. There are only around 30 people living in the islands. There is no information yet about a possible tsunami. More details to follow.
