An oil tanker exploded in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, July 26, 2026. According to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency, the tanker collided with a naval mine. The vessel had reportedly deviated from the safe shipping route officially designated by Iranian authorities before striking the mine. So far no details have been confirmed about the tanker’s identity, cargo and destination. Also, no casualties have been reported.
The incident occurred just as Iran and the US were observing a fragile pause, with President Trump having called off a two-week US bombing campaign against Iran to allow room for diplomacy, and both sides holding fire for two days prior to this blast .
