Nearly an hour ago the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a 5.3-magnitude earthquake in the South Pacific Ocean, 70 km east of Neiafu, Vava‘u, Tonga at a depth of 105km.

The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be changed again later on as seismologists review their data and calculations, or else as other agencies issue their own reports.

The earthquake was most likely felt as weak shaking and the affected towns or cities include Neiafu (pop. 4,300) located 85 km from the epicenter.
