An hour ago, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported that a 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck 8.1 km southeast of Kutaisi, Imereti, Georgia at a shallow depth of 10km.
The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be changed again later on as seismologists review their data and calculations, or else as other agencies issue their own reports, but it is unlikely.
The earthquake was felt as weak shaking in Samtredia (pop. 28,700) located 29 km from the epicenter, Kutaisi (pop. 178,300) 34 km away, Tsqaltubo (pop. 16,700) 40 km away, Zestaponi (pop. 25,900) 40 km away, Khoni (pop. 10,800) 42 km away, and Senaki (pop. 27,800) 55 km away.
