Massive landslide in Manipur, India.

A massive landslide was reported in Manipur, India. It struck a Territorial Army Camp on Wednesday midnight in the Noney district killing two Territorial Army (TA) personnel. According to ANI news agency, 13 military personnel were rescued, but there are still 20 unaccounted for.

A total of13 individuals have been rescued. The injured individuals are being treated at the Noney Army Medical unit. Evacuation of the critically injured personnel is in progress.

A massive rescue operation is ongoing by the Indian Army, Manipur Police, Assam Rifles and also by citizens in the area. Among the missing are two couples and a child.

The TA camp was established for the protection of an under construction railway station in Noney District. The railway will be connecting Jiribam to Imphal. A total of 107 TA personnel were on duty in the camp.

The landslide is believed to have blocked the Ezei river which flows into the Noney district. Unfortunately, new landslides due to bad weather are hampering rescue operation’s efforts to find the missing people. More details to follow.
