Moments ago Mexico was hit by a 6.3-magnitude earthquake. It struck 170 km southwest of Hermosillo, Sonora at a shallow depth of 10km.
The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
The earthquake was possibly felt in Plan de Ayala (pop. 480) located 79 km from the epicenter, Bahia de Kino (pop. 6,100) 82 km away, Santa Rosalia (pop. 11,800) 86 km away, Providencia (pop. 4,900) 89 km away, and Miguel Aleman (La Doce) (pop. 30,900) 106 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Guaymas (pop. 113,100) located 127 km from the epicenter, Villa Alberto Andrés Alvarado Aramburo (pop. 6,900) 130 km away, and Empalme (pop. 42,500) 134 km away.
