Moments ago, a 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck 93 km northwest of Ciudad de Aksu, Xinjiang, China.
The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
The earthquake was most likely felt in Ciudad de Aksu (pop. 340,000) located 93 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking. Weak shaking might have also been felt in Aykol (pop. 11,300) located 109 km from the epicenter, Karakol (pop. 70,200) 122 km away, and Kyzyl-Suu (pop. 16,900) 142 km away.
