A 7.8 earthquake strikes southern Alaska.

An earthquake of 7.8 has struck Alaska on Wednesday morning. The epicentre of the earthquake was 60 miles southeast off Perryville, Alaska. The shallow quake occurred at a depth of 6 miles.

A tsunami warning has been issued, and police urged all residents to head for higher ground. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said, ‘Based on the preliminary earthquake parameters.. hazardous tsunami waves are possible for coasts located within 300 km of the earthquake epicentre.’

There is no tsunami alert for the US or Canada.
