On Sunday, three bombs exploded outside a jail compound in Jalalabad, Afghanistan. Shortly after the bomb blasts, heavy fighting erupted between police and militants resulting in one dead and 20 injured.

Provincial Council Member, Sohrab Qaderi said that there was a huge car bomb explosion which was subsequently followed by two smaller explosions near the prison.

A large police force was immediately deployed to counter the militants. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but Taliban and the Islamic State (IS) are active in the region. This attack comes a day after a senior IS commander was killed.

The clashes are still ongoing.
