President of Turkey, Erdogan said that he will announce good news on Friday. The good news is believed to be a discovery of a gas field in the Eastern Mediterranean. Turkey is in dispute with Greece over the zone and several European countries supported Greece and attempted to stop Turkey from its oil and gas exploration.

A source that wants to remain anonymous explained that the new discovery already prompted the drilling ship ‘Kanuni’ to head to the field. It has a crew of 35 people and is able to drill down 3000m at depths reaching 12,000m.

This could further escalate the situation as Greece already have navy warships deployed, and France recently promised to send military aid which includes a navy nilitary vessel and 2 rafale fighter jets in Cyprus. The area of the discovery is still unknown.
