Greece and US carry out a joint military exercise south of Crete.

On Monday, the United States and Greece carried out a joint military exercise south of Crete, as a part of an ongoing military cooperation between the two countries. Both the navy and air force were involved in the military exercise. The aeronautical exercise involved the frigate AEGEAN, a submarine Type 214 and also six F-16 fighter jets. The United States deployed the destroyer USS Winston S, Churchill and also navy helicopters.
The military exercise included joint operational planning,defense, communications and information sharing. Greece has been doing several military exercises in response to Turkish oil and gas exploration in disputed lands.
