In a major escalation between Israel and Gaza forces, Hamas fired hundreds of rockets into the cities of Ashkelon, Holon Ashdod and Givatayim in Southern Israel killing two and wounding 10 Israelis. This comes after Israel conducted airstrikes on Monday afternoon killing 26 Palestinians — including nine children and a woman. Israel Defense Forces said that at least 16 of the victims were militants.

The escalation in the weeks-long tension is risking a new intifada after Israel vowed to step-up counterstrikes. The weeks-long tension started in Jerusalem during Ramadan in Mid-April. Palestinians clashed nightly with Israeli police as they were putting up barriers to prevent Palestinians from mass gathering at the Old City’s Damascus Gate after iftar, which is the breaking of the daytime fast. A lot of Palestinians were injured in the clashes and Israeli police arrested dozens.

Unfortunately, the situation seems to be spiraling out of control as both Israel and Hamas are bombarding each other in a tit-for-tat move.
