Moments ago a huge fire was reported at a building site in Durham city centre, England forcing nearby residents to shut their windows due to the thick smoke.

Firefighters from five stations rushed to the scene at around 2pm. One person was rushed to the hospital due to smoke inhalation.

It was initially thought that the fire might have been caused by a gas explosion, but the County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue service has since confirmed there were no reports of an explosion.

An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire. More details to follow.
