A 4.0-magnitude earthquake just struck Departamento de Independencia, La Rioja, 39 km north of San Agustin de Valle Fértil, Departamento de Valle Fértil, San Juan, Argentina at a shallow depth of 10km according to Instituto Nacional De Prevencion Sismica (INPRES).

Since the earthquake has just occurred, the exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be changed again later on as seismologists review their data and calculations, or else as other agencies issue their own reports.

Several towns or cities located close to the epicenter most likely felt the moderate earthquake, but no significant damage to infrastructure is expected. Tremors were most likely felt in the towns or cities of San Augustin De Valle Fertil, La Rioja, Chilecito, Chimbas (San Juan)and Cuacete.
