An hour ago, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported a 4.6-magnitude earthquake in El Loa, 39 km east of Calama, Provincia de El Loa, Antofagasta, Chile at a depth of 112km.
The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be changed again later on as seismologists review their data and calculations, or else as other agencies issue their own reports.
The earthquake did not cause any significant damage, but it was most likely felt by some towns or cities located close to the epicenter. These include Calama (pop. 143,100) located 39 km from the epicenter, and San Pedro de Atacama (pop. 2,000) 59 km away.
