The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported a significant 5.4-magnitude earthquake minutes ago that struck Ciudad de San Juan, Departamento de Capital, San Juan, Argentina at a depth of 90km. The tremor was reported at 8.28am local time.
Since it occurred just a few minutes ago, so the exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be changed again later on as seismologists review their data and calculations, or else as other agencies issue their own reports, but it is unlikely.
No significant damage is expected. It was most likely felt as weak shaking in several towns or cities which includes Caucete (pop. 33,600) located 46 km from the epicenter, Santa Lucia (pop. 43,600) 60 km away, Albardon (pop. 20,400) 61 km away, Chimbas (pop. 73,800) 62 km away, Villa Paula de Sarmiento (pop. 19,100) 63 km away, Ciudad de San Juan (pop. 447,000) 64 km away, and Pocito (pop. 41,000) 73 km away.
