Yesterday, Iran seized two Greek Suezmax crude oil ships in the Persian Gulf off the coast of Iran. The ships captured by the Iranian navy are the Delta Poseidon and Prudent warrior. Iran claimed that the ships had violated maritime regulations.
Both ships were fully loaded with crude oil. It is being seen as a retaliation for last month’s seizure of a former Russian-flagged ship by Greek authorities after a request to do so by US authorities. The Russian flagged ship changed its flag to Iranian, and Greek authorities found out that the oil was of Iranian origin so it was confiscated and sent to the United States.
