A 4.8-magnitude earthquake strikes Nicaragua.

A 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck 39 km north of Chinandega, Nicaragua at a shallow depth of 10km.

The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might still be changed again later on as seismologists review their data and calculations, or else as other agencies issue their own reports.

It was most likely felt as weak shaking in towns or cities located close to the epicenter of the quake. Cities or towns affected by the quake include El Viejo (pop. 53,500) located 34 km from the epicenter, Somotillo (pop. 15,400) 39 km away, Chinandega (pop. 126,400) 39 km away, Chichigalpa (pop. 33,100) 49 km away, Corinto (pop. 19,200) 54 km away, Leon (pop. 144,500) 71 km away, and La Paz Centro (pop. 23,500) 93 km away. The earthquake has yet to be reviewed by a seismologist.
