Local sources reported a signifcant 5.1-magnitude earthquake in the North Pacific Ocean 109 km southeast of Punta de Burica, Panama at a shallow depth of 10km.

The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might still be changed again later on as seismologists review their data and calculations, or else as other agencies issue their own reports.

The earthquake was felt as weak shaking in a number of towns and cities in Panama and Costa Rica located close to the epicenter.
