5.3-magnitude Earthquake in Shikoku, Japan.

On February 25, 2026, a 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Shikoku, Japan’s lush southern island, rattling nerves but causing no major harm. Centered about 30 kilometers southeast of Kochi Prefecture at a shallow depth of 10 km, the quake hit around 9:45 AM local time, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA). Tremors were felt across Shikoku’s four prefectures—Kochi, Ehime, Tokushima, and Kagawa—with intensities reaching level 4 on Japan’s 7-point seismic scale in some areas.
