France’s Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier strike group transited the Strait of Gibraltar, entering the Mediterranean to aid allies Qatar, Cyprus, and Jordan against escalating threats. President Macron’s deployment protects French interests as Iranian drones struck a UK base in Cyprus earlier this week, prompting European reinforcements.

In the eastern Mediterranean, the French FREMM frigate Languedoc is already positioned, while the amphibious helicopter carrier PHA Tonnerre has departed from Toulon naval base toward the East Mediterranean to support potential evacuations of French citizens from Lebanon.

Meanwhile, the French PHA Dixmude is operating in the Red Sea alongside the frigate Aconit, with another frigate, Forbin, patrolling the Bab El Mandeb strait. Finally, the FREMM Provence is deployed in the Arabian Sea.
