Several airstrikes were conducted in Gaza on Friday in response to the shelling carried out from Gaza which hit Israel territory. It is not yet known how many missiles have been intercepted by the iron dome anti-missile system, but it has been reported that one missile damaged a building in the Negev region. The IDF have not identified the militants that fired the missiles into Israel, but Israel defense minister Avigdor Lieberman has quickly blamed Iran for the provision of missiles to numerous groups in Gaza. The IDF carried out tank fire and airstrikes on Hamas outposts in Northern Gaza in retaliation.
This comes amid already strained relations between Israel and Palestine, due to the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel. The ongoing protests turned to violent clashes in the Israeli-occupied Palestine territories resulting in around 14 Palestinians killed and around 3000 injured. Both Hamas and Islamic Jihad have considered Friday as a ‘day of rage’.
