A military plane crashes in Kharkiv, Ukraine.

A military transport plane, an AN-26, that was carrying 27 people on board, mainly cadets crashed in Chuhuiv, Kharkiv region, Ukraine at about 20:50, Ukraine time. The crash occurred two kilometres away from the military airfield. A total of 25 people lost their lives. One of the dead, survived the crash, but later died in the hospital. Two cadets managed to survive the crash, after they managed to jump out of the plane at a low altitude, before it crashed.

At the site where the military plane crashed, a massive fire was seen, and according to the news ‘Ukraine Now’, the military transport plane carried cadets that were on a training mission. The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky said ‘An-26 has crashed. Apart from the crew, there were Ukrainian cadets on board. There are dead and wounded.’

The State Bureau of Investigation said ‘The following versions are being verified: technical malfunction of aircraft units; improper performance by crew; improper performance by those responsible for ground control; improper aircraft maintenance and preparation for flight.’

The President said that he would travel to the region on Saturday. He tweeted ‘My thoughts are with the families and friends of those who lost their lives.’
