Prime Minister of Bahrain Al-Khalifa dies.

The Prime Minister of Bahrain Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa died at the age of 84 in Mayo Climic Hospital, United States. He is the longest serving Prime Minister of Bahrain. He took this job as Prime Minister in 1970, year before Bahrain’s independence.
His body will be sent back to Bahrain according to the state news agency BNA reported. The King of Bahrain Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa announced a week of mourning for the death of the prime minister. Ministries and Government departments will also close for three days as from Thursday.
Prince Khalifa was a strong ally of United States and Saudi Arabia. He was considered as an important figure in Gulf politics, and is known to be very rich. He was harshly criticized for his criticism of pro-democracy protests in Bahrain back in 2011 during the Arab Spring. Protestors demanded his removal over corruption allegations, but to no avail. It potrayed the prime minister as a defender of dynastic rule.
Bahrain is known to be the home base for the United States Navy’s Fifth fleet.
