Between Saturday and Sunday, it has been reported by Iraqi officials that a drone strike killed an Iranian commander, Muslim Shahdan at the Iraq-Syria border.
This comes days after the killing of the Iranian nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh in Tehran, an assassination that was blamed on Israel.
The Iranian commander was in a vehicle with three other men, and was carrying weapons across the Iraqi border. As soon as they entered the Syrian border, the vehicle was targeted by an airstrike. All the men in the vehicle were killed. Reuters could not verify this information about the death of the commander, but Iraqi officials and local military groups confirmed the assassination.
Noone has claimed responsibility for the airstrike, but Israel is known to have launched several airstrikes against Syrian and Iranian targets in Syria last week.
