The Chinese government announced that it has already administered more than 1 million emergency doses to its citizens in high risk groups. The vaccine was given to workers in industries which are considered at high risk of COVID-19 infection. China used two different vaccines, one by Sinovac Biotech and another by Sinopharm, The state-owned China National Biotex Group Co. (CNBG) has also been approved, but only for military use. According to Chinese authorities, there has been no serious adverse reactions.
Now Chinese authorities are planning to vaccinate people working in hospitals, public transport, cold-chain industry, customs and vulnerable groups, which includes people with known pre-existing conditions. Once these people get vaccinated, the general public will than start to be vaccinated. This was said by the Vice Minister of China’s National Health Commission (NHC), and director of State Council’s vaccine Research and Development group, Zeng Yixin. He also said during a briefing,
During the winter and spring seasons, carrying out novel coronavirus vaccination work among some key population groups is of great significance to epidemic prevention.
Zeng Yixin
The Vice Minister of NHC, Zeng Yixin also said during the briefing,
Our goal is to establish herd immunity through inoculations so that Covid-19 can be effectively controlled rapidly.
Zeng Yixin
China aims to vaccinate 50 million people in less than two months, an ambitious goal. China has managed to control the transmission of the virus, and in fact, most of the populations’ life is back to normal. They managed to reduce the exponential increase in cases back in April, when half of the planet was under lock-down due to a surge in the number of COVID-19 cases. The strict quarantine and lock-down that China started in January 23rd 2020 paid off. By April most lock-downs in Chinese cities were stopped or eased.
The lack of transparency on the efficacy and safety from the late-stage human trials on the Chinese vaccines will undoubtedly fuel skepticism on the effectiveness of Chinese vaccines. Regardless of this, several countries around the World signed deals with Chinese vaccine makers to buy the vaccine. Countries such as Brazil, Turkey, Singapore and United Arab Emirates are among the countries that ordered Chinese vaccines.
If China’s Health authorities are to be believed, China reported only 86,806 cases and 4,634 deaths since the pandemic began. The initial attempt by Chinese authorities to censor information related to coronavirus back in February among its citizens, will undoubtedly prove that the Chinese authorities manipulated the real number of coronavirus cases and deaths. It is believed that the number of cases and deaths to be much higher than what has been reported.
Hope can get more vaccines.
