On Tuesday morning, December 29th, residents of Taipei city, district of Beitou will receive a text message to alert them about an impending volcano eruption, in the first ever volcano drill.

Mount Datun has been considered as an active volcano, which means that it has erupted at least once over the past 10,000 years. Due to the short distance between the volcano and the capital is less than 20 kilometres, and therefore an eruption would be catastrophic for the capital city.

On Tuesday morning between 10-10:30am, residents of Huitan region will receive a three-minute volcano alert. The message will indicate that it is a drill.
