The ceasefire came into effect on Friday morning at 2am local time. Israel repeatedly said that if Hamas fires a rocket towards Israel they would start bombarding targets in Gaza.
Two Egyptian delegations headed to Palestinian authorities to monitor the truce. Apart from the truce between Israel and Hamas, there is also a truce between Israel and Islamic Jihad. The latter is the second most powerful group in Gaza after Hamas.
