A 4.8-magnitude earthquake strikes Panama.

An hour ago the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported that a 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck the Baru District, 48 km west of David, Provincia de Chiriqui, Panama at a depth of 16km.

As is usual, the exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might revised later on as seismologists review their data and calculations, or else as other agencies issue their report.

Towns that might have felt a weak shaking include San Valentin (pop. 810) located 1 km from the epicenter, La Esperanza (pop. 1,900) 4 km away, Divala (pop. 2,500) 10 km away, Progreso (pop. 2,200) 10 km away, El Palmar (pop. 4,500) 10 km away, Puerto Armuelles (pop. 11,700) 13 km away, and La Concepcion (pop. 17,700) 24 km away.
