A 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck Solomon Islands.

Two hours ago the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported that a 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck the Solomon Islands near Honiara at 1.51am local time. The quake struck at a shallow depth of 10km.
The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be changed later on as seismologists review their data and calculations, or else as other agencies issue their report.
Based on preliminary data the earthquake should not have caused any significant damage. Weak shaking was felt in Kirakira (pop. 1,100) located 115 km from the epicenter, Honiara (pop. 56,300) 129 km away, Tulagi (pop. 1,800) 133 km away, and Auki (pop. 6,800) 138 km away.
