The Pakistani army said that it immediately counterattacked resulting in heavy casualties among the Taliban fighter. The attack was claimed by the Pakistani Taliban, Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which has recently forged an alliance with the Afghan Taliban after the fall of Kabul. The Afghan government did not agree with the Pakistani version of the attack that the shooting came from within their land.

The Pakistani government said that it expects such attacks to be halted by the Taliban as per agreement. This comes a day after Pakistani security forces launched an attack in Balochistan after two of their posts came under attack. In the operation twenty rebels were killed. The rebels form part of a new separatist organization known as Balochistan Nationalist Army (BLA).
