The World Health Organization has instructed Ukraine to destroy all high-threat pathogens in its public health laboratories to avoid any potential accidents causing them to spread into the population.
Many biosecurity experts believe that Russian troop movements and bombardments indicate that there is a high risk that such facilities might be hit, resulting in a number of disease-causing pathogens to spread in the community.
Their research laboratories houses a number of disease-causing pathogens to research ways to mitigate transmission. These labs have been funded by the United States, European Union and World Health Organization.
As part of this work, WHO has strongly recommended to the Ministry of Health in Ukraine and other responsible bodies to destroy high-threat pathogens to prevent any potential spills.WHO
It is not yet known what type of viruses are housed in such laboratories and how threatening they are to the general population, but it is known that they were also studying COVID-19. Last Wednesday, Russian foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova reiterated the presence of biowarfare labs in Ukraine. These accusations were repeatedly denied by both US and Ukraine.
