5.7-magnitude earthquake strikes Costa Rica.

Moments ago, a 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck 76 km west of Nicoya, Costa Rica at a shallow depth of 11.1km. It struck at 2.20am local time.

The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.

The earthquake probably did not cause any significant damage. It was felt in Tamarindo (pop. 6,400) located 44 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Santa Cruz (pop. 12,300) located 66 km from the epicenter, Nicoya (pop. 15,300) 76 km away, Sardinal (pop. 3,300) 76 km away, and Liberia (pop. 45,400) 102 km away.
