Significant 5.4-magnitude aftershock strikes southwest of Miyazaki, Japan.

Nearly 12 hours after a significant earthquake struck 19km SSE of Miyazaki, Japan, a signifcant 5.4-magnitude aftershock struck 7.8km from Miyazaki at 4.23am local time, at a shallow depth of 19.5km. After the afternoon 7.1-magnitude earthquake, Japan was hit with several aftershocks, this one being the strongest.
The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
The earthquake was felt in Miyazaki (pop. 311,200) located 44 km from the epicenter, Nichinan (pop. 44,200) 50 km away, Takanabe (pop. 22,500) 51 km away, Tsuma (pop. 34,300) 55 km away, and Kushima (pop. 22,100) 66 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Miyakonojō (pop. 131,000) located 74 km from the epicenter, Kobayashi (pop. 39,700) 85 km away, and Nobeoka (pop. 121,900) 91 km away.
