On Thursday, 28th November the US aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and its CSG members USS Michael Murphy and USS Spruance entered the South China Sea via the Malacca Strait. The carrier strike group had been in Port Klang, Malaysia back on November 23, 2024 marking the first time a US aircraft carrier visited the country since 2012.

The USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) is the fifth Nimitz-class aircraft carrier in the United States Navy, named after the 16th President of the United States. It is equipped with F-35C and F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jets. In October 2024, the Pentagon ordered the Lincoln to extend its deployment in the Middle East in response to escalating regional tensions, particularly following Iran’s launch of approximately 180 missiles toward Israel. It also took part in operations against the Houthis.
