A fireworks explosion claimed the lives of two people while injuring 22 others just after midnight on New Year’s Day. The fire department, emergency responders from the police and EMS rushed to the scene in Salt Lake-Aliamanu area of Honolulu. Two people were pronounced dead on-site. The injured were rushed to the nearest hospital, all in critical or serious condition.

Medical staff believe that the accident happened when a 14-year-old boy accidentally set off a firework in his hand. The boy was treated on-site and eventually rushed to the hospital to a trauma center for further treatment.
