A suicide bomber struck central Moscow early Tuesday, February 24, 2026—marking four years since Russia’s Ukraine invasion—detonating near a police patrol vehicle outside Savyolovsky Railway Station. The blast, equivalent to 300g TNT, killed the bomber and two police officers instantly, critically injuring two others with shrapnel wounds. No other casualties reported at the busy downtown hub.
Russia’s Investigative Committee launched a probe under charges of attacking law enforcement and illegal explosives. The Russian citizen suspect approached officers before self-detonating; motives unknown amid war anniversary timing. Reports indicate the suicide bomber may have been remotely guided via phone, detonating the device as he neared the police officers.
